Where did the whale come from?

Between 10th - 12th May 2012 a Southern Right whale skeleton named ‘Suzi’ was brought into the building and suspended from the ceiling. This amazing event was preceded by 7 years of careful planning and manpower under the watchful eyes of Wilfred Chivell and taxidermist Piet Pretorius.

Wilfred was first alerted to the whale in September 2005 when it was found floating just off Danger Point, near to Gansbaai, South Africa. It was apparent that the whale had been killed after collision with a ship and this has now been highlighted on the skeleton using a contrasting paint colour.
